Thanks to the Life REthinkWASTE project, the Veneto Regional Environment Agency is continuing the meetings promoted by Action B.5, which aims to expand the innovative KAYT and PAYT approaches to improve the rate of separate waste collection and increase the recycling share.
In particular, the PAYT approach (Pay As You Throw – pay as you throw), i.e. dynamic tariff that charges for waste according to the user’s behaviour. And the KAYT (Know As You Throw- know what you throw away) approach, which aims to inform the user with awareness-raising campaigns through the most widely used messaging platforms such as Whatsapp, Telegram and SMS. Those are the focus of the actions of the Life REthinkWASTE project.
ARPAV is carrying on a training and support campaign for local authorities on PAYT and KAYT concepts. After an first cycle of meetings in the province of Belluno, meetings dedicated to Padua (local authority of Padova Centro) are ongoing, and a cycle of meetings reserved for Venice (local authority of Venezia Ambiente) will be soon started.
The meetings include the presentation of the Life REthinkWASTE project, in which ARPAV is a partner, and of the experimentation experiences of the KAYT and PAYT approaches carried out in four different areas involved in the project: Bassano del Grappa (VI), Varese, Bitetto (BA), and Sant Just Desvern (Catalonia). Furthermore, thanks to Professors Bucciol and Quercia from the University of Verona, the theory of nudges is illustrated, i.e. how user choice can be influenced in the direction of environmentally virtuous behaviour. At the close of the seminar, a workshop is proposed where participants will be asked to imagine ways to improve communication with the user, taking inspiration from the experiences presented.
